Do you know that the Igbos were previously referred to as “red eboes “ in the 15th and 18th centuries. This was due to their distinctive light skin complexion . Originating primarily from what was known as the Bight of Biafra on the West African coast, Igbo people were taken in relatively high numbers to Jamaica as a result of the Transatlantic Slรคve Trade, beginning around 1750AD.

Due to their predominance in Jamaica, they were referred to as red Eboes or simply Eboe. Today “Eboe” in Jamaica means red or someone with light skin as a result of this. There is a town in Belize named Eboe town due to the high presence of Igbos .
