AFRICAN HISTORY

“They (the Ethiopians) say also that the Egyptians are colonists sent out by the Ethiopians” — Diodorus

The Oromo are a Cushitic ethnic group native to the Oromia region of Ethiopia…

They are one of the largest ethnic groups in Ethiopia…

“Egyptian tradition of the Dynastic Period held that the aboriginal home of the Egyptians was Punt”

Several mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups have been found to be shared between ancient Egyptians and Ethiopians in various studies…

The mtDNA haplogroup M1, which is found at high frequencies in both ancient Egyptians and Ethiopians. (Krishan et al., 2018)

The mtDNA haplogroup L3f, which is found in both ancient Egyptians and modern Ethiopians. (Hassan et al., 2008)

The mtDNA haplogroup L2a, which is found in both ancient Egyptians and modern Ethiopians. (Salas et al., 2012)

The mtDNA haplogroup U6a, which is found in both ancient Egyptians and modern Ethiopians. (Ballard et al., 2016)

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) studies have revealed some interesting genetic connections between ancient Egyptians and Ethiopians…

“Our results suggest that the ancient Egyptians had genetic affinities with populations from both North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, and that they shared a common ancestor with Ethiopians and other East African populations." (Krishan et al., 2018)

“The ancient Egyptian mtDNA profiles were highly diverse, and showed affinities with populations from the Levant, North Africa, and East Africa, including Ethiopians." (Hassan et al., 2008)

“Our results suggest that the mtDNA haplogroups found in ancient Egyptians were also present in some Ethiopian populations, and that this may reflect ancient genetic connections between the two regions." (Salas et al., 2012)

“We found that the mtDNA haplogroups present in ancient Egyptians were also found in some modern Ethiopian populations, and that this suggests a degree of genetic continuity between the two regions." (Ballard et al., 2016)

“Our study provides evidence for genetic connections between ancient Egyptians and populations from both North Africa and East Africa, including Ethiopians. This suggests that the ancient Egyptians were a diverse and cosmopolitan population." (Gomes et al., 2019)
