THE SAMBURU PEOPLE

The Samburu of Kenya are a sub-tribe of the Nilotic Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. They are a semi-nomadic people who herd mainly cattle but also goats, sheep and camel.

The Samburu are the third largest of the 22 sub-tribes of the Maasai after the Purko of Kenya and Tanzania and the Kisonko of Tanzania.

They are natural conservationists who co-exist with teeming big wildlife in the African Savanna in places such as Samburu National Reserve.
