This metal mask was used during slavery for 3 main reasons:
(1). To prevent Slaves from eating fruits such as apples, pineapples, oranges, cashews, bananas and sugarcane, etc... during their harvest.
(2). To prevent Slaves from singing spiritual songs and African warrior songs. These spiritual and warrior songs have motivated some slaves to rebel and fight without a care for their lives.
(3). To stop teaching African local dialects (languages) to their children... Which destroyed our dialects, and forced them to learn the languages of Slavic masters.
