Xuankong Temple in China |
The Hanging Temple, which is also known as Xuankong Temple, Hengshan Hanging Temple or Hanging Monastery, is located on a cliff on Mount Hangshan (75 metres or 246 feet above the ground) in the Hungyuan county of the Shanxi province, China. Built 1,500 years ago by a monk called Liao Ran during the Northern Wei Dynasty, the 40-room Hanging Temple has a rare distinction of housing three main Chinese traditional philosophies, that is, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism together under one common "roof" here.
