IDE IFA OR ORISA BEADS

Ọ̀rúnmìlà said failure to venerate

I responded, failure to venerate Bara-mi-Agboniregun

He said abhorrence to veneration

By the little rat

Caused him to die en route.....

Ọ̀rúnmìlà said failure to venerate

I responded, failure to venerate Bara-mi-Agboniregun

He said abhorrence to veneration

From the little fish

Caused him to die by the hook....

Ọ̀rúnmìlà said failure to venerate

I responded, failure to venerate Bara-mi-Agboniregun

He said abhorrence to veneration

From the little bird

Caused him to die by the cage.....

Ọ̀rúnmìlà said failure to venerate

I responded, failure to venerate Bara-mi-Agboniregun

He said abhorrence to veneration

From the little animal

Caused him to die by the trap....

Abhorrence to veneration

From the the son of man

Caused him to die

A shameful and needless death

He lamented.....

In the case of one's child

How do we prevent

Such a tragic death

I asked to know.....

Go instruct the son of man

To venerate Ifá

When he wakes up

So he will not die

A wasteful and needless death.

EXPLANATION

Idè is generally known and understood as the Ifá or Òrìṣà beads, but in this Ifá verse, it goes deeper than just the beads.

First it speaks of our devotion before our Òrìṣà.

To "tie Idè" in this context means to ensure that one stays in constant communication with the Òrìṣà - letting our soul be bound, in  reverence, with our Òrìṣà.

When we wake up in the morning, Ifá and our Òrìṣà expects us to come before the altar to set our spiritual antenna for the day.

Ọrúnmìlà is also communicating to us the importance putting on our Ifá and Òrìṣà insignia always, especially the beads.

The Ifá and Òrìṣà beads that we wear set upon us the respect that is to be accorded to our deities. As long as we live in consonance with our Ifá and Òrìṣà with reverence and in truth, we the initiate cannot die shamefully and wastefully.

Let us endeavor to check ourselves so that we make adjustments where necessary.

May we all live long in peace of mind.

O'gbó A'tọ́.
