NATURALLY EYE-CATCHING: THE ANCIENT CITADEL OF ALLEPO IN SYRIA

The Citadel of Allepo in Syria

Built around 3,000 BC, the Citadel of Allepo is arguably the oldest and longest castle in the world. Considered one of the ancient Wonders Of The World, the castle still stand nonchalantly tall (oblivious of its surrounding development) in the old City Of Allepo in Syria. Historically, it has been occupied by many civilizations including the Armenians, Greeks, Byzantines, Ayyubids, Mamlules and finally, the Ottomans. In 2000, an extensive restoration work was carried out by the Aga Khan Trust For Culture in collaboration with the Allepo Archeological Society. It has been a part of the ancient City Of Allepo which is a UNESCO World Heritage since 1986.
