ABOKI is the Hausa word for "Friend"

But it is however commonly used in the Southern parts of Nigeria to denote a man, usually Muslim or assumed to be Muslim, who is from the North or looks like "Hausa man".

Our people in the South for many years and even till now, largely out of ignorance, assume every northern person who comes from towns  anywhere above  River Niger and Benue to be HAUSA. This is a wrong assumption. Not every male from the North is an aboki. There are many tribes in Northern Nigeria.
