KOLANUT: Its Origin and Significance

KOLANUT is cultivated in sierra Leone/Liberia, Nigeria/Cameroon and Gabon.

It is used in so many carbonated drinks because it contains caffeine. And brands like pepsi and Coca-Cola used it in their beverages.

In the slave days, it was used by slaves in the slave ship to improve the taste of water. Chevalier Des Marchais noted that it made the, "bitterness, or sourest things taste sweet".

Most farmers eat it to reduce the feeling of hunger and tiredness, this is due to the high level of caffeine in it.

Most African tribes use it as a medium of peace ove r a drink in occasions and gatherings.

Over the years, it has provided jobs to so many.
