Joseph Edgar Partners Ladi Soyode in historic Play - "Awo"

Influential Theatre Producer Joseph Edgar the Duke of Shomolu fresh from the massive success of IBIOM which showed at the prestigious Ibom Hall in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State Capital has concluded plans to  partner with prominent lawyer and cultural activist Ladi Soyode in bringing to the stage the historically important Play Awo this August at the wonderful Glover Hall in Lagos۔

Awo which has been written and would be directed  by massively talented Director Makinde Adeniran will take a deep and introspective look at the life and times of the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo with special attention to the very critical role Mama HID Awolowo played in it۔

Chief Obafemi Awolowo in one of the most iconic statements ever made had described Mama as his Jewel of Inestimable value making her very central to the story of Awo as told by master story teller Makinde who happens to be the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners.

In beautiful song and dance routine and indepth characterization garnished by fluid delivery enhanced with riveting suspense، Makinde will tell a colourful and exciting story of the life of one of the most important African personalities of the 20th Century.

in a brief statement by Edgar، AWO will be powerful  study in leadership, passion and strong incisive family values according to him. It remains very important at this juncture of our National Life for this story to be told using the very exciting medium that is stage to strengthen our link to the past as we strive to forge a National Reawakening in all aspects of National Life۔

Ladi Soyode who is Co - Executive Producer of AWO in his own contribution averred that the story of Awo had caught the attention of international Film Makers but that it was very fitting for it to be first told in this format because of the need to perfectly capture its true essence.

Ladi who is a former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Osun State happens to be a grandson of the late sage brings his unique perspective to the project having had a literal front row seat on Papa's life۔ 

His involvement enriches the story massively. The Production Suite has Versatile Actor Yemi Shodimu as Co Executive Producer and Olisa Adibua in the same role.

The Production which has already secured the support of the larger Awolowo's family will run from Middle of August till the first week in September.
