Bare Ni Joye by Pa Jimi Solanke

We often wonder what inspires certain musical compositions by some veterans. While Interviewing Pa Jimi Solanke at his Ipara Country home few days back he told me the stories behind some of his songs.

According to him his Grandfather became the Lisa in Remo Land when he was 4 years old. A Lisa is the next person to a King. His father was also a Chief.

Little wonder that the term Oja and Ileke  appeared in the track Bare Ni Joye. Oja is often used by women particularly in the local communities to tie baby behind same Oja is also worn and placed on the shoulders of Chiefs as a Symbol. This simply mean that most houses you find Oja are often occupied by chiefs.

This song will not only outlive Baba Solanke but will continue to serve as a social calendar for generations of the Solanke Dynasty.
