I listened to Aare Gani Adams saying Aare onakaknfo is superior to some Yoruba Obas (which Ọba).
Our major problem is the translation of Yoruba Names, Many Yoruba titled names do not have proper English translation.
When they translated Aare onakakanfo to Generalismo that authomatically makes him feel like one. Kakanfo is not the Generalismo of old Oyo Kingdom.
Bashorun of Ọ̀yọ́ is the head of the army. Not Aare Onakakanfo been speculated.
Foolish Translation of our culture and Tradition is damaging our history.
Some translated Bashorun Oyo to Prime Minister of England. Meanwhile, Bashorun and prime Minister not same, the Queen of England can sack Prime Minister while Prime Minister can't sack the Queen.
Basorun of Old Ọ̀yọ́ Empire can sack Aláàfin Ọ̀yọ́ while the Aláàfin has no such power to sack Bashorun.
Now, tó Aare Ona kakanfo : Aare Onakakanfo is a war title created by Alaafin Ajagbo, Ajagbo is one of the most powerful Aláàfin in the history of Old Ọ̀yọ́ Empire, he controlled from Ọ̀yọ́ capital down to Ashante land in today Ghana, when he was too old for war game he created Aare Ona kakanfo to assist the Basorun in the front mostly to secure remote areas in the West, the first Aare Ona kakanfo was Kòkòrò gangan of Ìwòye town (now Benin Republic) succeeded by Oyatope of Ìwòye ( Benin Republic) and Oyabi of Ajase ( now Benin Republic). The first three Aare Onakakanfo were from, Benin Republic today.
Aare Onakakanfo is not superior to any Ọba in Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams needs to study history well.
It’s an insult to the traditional titles for the Aare Ona Kakanfo to be rated above Yoruba Obas. Any Ọba can install his own Aare Ona Kakanfo to compete with him.
For example, during the Ọ̀yọ́ Kingdom, Alaafin Ọ̀yọ́ installed Toyeje Alebiosu of Ogbomoso as Aare Onakakanfo, then there was misunderstanding between Aláàfin and Onikoyi Adegun. So, to balance the power Onikoyi Adegun too installed Edun of Gbongan as his own Aare Onakaknfo.
They are both Aare Onakakanfo at same time, even Ibadan warriors made Chief Oluyedun Afonja's son the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Ibadan.
The Aare Onakakanfo today has no significant Meaning, it is a ceremonial title, after the Kiriji war there was peace no more inter-tribal war, no more fighting.
The last real Aare Ona Kakanfo was Aare Latosha of Ibadan, he died in the Kiriji war in 1885, but between 1885 and 1964 (almost 80years) there was no title called Aare Onakakanfo until late Chief Akintola was installed as a ceremonial Kakanfo by Aláàfin Oladigbolu in 1964.
Aare Onakakanfo only an old Oyo title of Aláàfin Oyo only. I don’t understand how that could be equated to any Ọba in Yoruba land.
We cannot continue with such an arrogant fools for long. Yorubas and their culture are more better than that.
