OlaleOne has just dropped his third album dubbed Afrikan Jazz. The concept behind this project is to showcase a local instrument like Marimba or Afrikan wooden xylophone playing with other western instruments like guitar, keyboard etc and see the outcome of the blend while they are being fused together. Of course, the result has been musically wonderful. Although, the xylophone is a local instrument, this project makes other western instruments to serve as accompaniment to it. And the musical experiment has been a very sonorous musical marriage and arrangement.
The album consists of six tracks namely Nnenekwo, Ayangayanga Dedebi, Akoi Wata Geri, Olusegun and Ero Oja Olowo.
"Nnenekwo" is an Igbo folklore from South East of Nigeria in West Africa. This song is danced to by men and women folk during the new yam festival. They enjoy this song while sipping the palm wine to acknowledge the music. This piece of music is rendered with the Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
"Ayangayanga" is another Igbo folklore from the South East of Nigeria in West Africa. This song is danced to by the womenfolk holding the white handkerchiefs and shake their waists to the rhythm of the music. It is a pulsating experience as they dance to it with all their energy. Sometimes they wear rattles around their ankles and blow whistles to the song in between the dance. This song is rendered with Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
"Dedebi" is a Ghanaian folk song. It is highlife genre. The song is about a son leaving his mother to an unknown destination but not sure how the journey would look like. He is crying and pleading to the mother to pray for him on his voyage. The mother on the other hand crying and prying that he has handed his voyage in God's hands. They are both weeping as they bid each other farewell. The piece of song is rendered with Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
"Akoi Wata Geri" is an Hausa song made popular in those days by Uche Brothers. The second talks about a beautiful girl in Sokoto that the singer has fallen in love with. And that he will do all it takes to marry this paragon of beauty in Sokoto. The song is rendered with the Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
"Olusegun" is folklore from the late musicologist Ayo Bankole. The song talks about the tribulations and problems facing the people of the world. It is asking the Redeemer to come and save the people. The song even though folklore but it is a religious music or call it gospel. The song is rendered with the Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
"Ero Oja Olowo" is Yoruba folklore from South West of Nigeria in West Africa. The song talks about a woman looking for the where about of her kids. The kids have been missing and she is advised to go and announce the missing of the three kids at the market place. At first, she is shy but summons a courage later and starts announcing their names in a song. The song is rendered with the Marimba leading and other instruments accompanying.
