Kaduna State (Hausa: Jihar Kaduna, جىِهَر كَدُنا; مدينة كدونا; Fula: Leydi Kaduna, 𞤤𞤫𞤴𞤣𞤭 𞤳𞤢𞤣𞤵𞤲𞤢; Tyap: Si̱tet Ka̱duna) is a state in the northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
The state capital, Kaduna, was Nigeria's 8th largest city in 2006. Kaduna State was formed in 1967 and got its current borders in 1987.
Kaduna is a big and populated state, ranking fourth in size and third in population. It's known as the Centre of Learning due to its many important schools, like Ahmadu Bello University.
Kaduna has a rich history, with ancient civilizations like the Nok people living there from 1500 BC to 500 AD. The Hausa Kingdoms existed from the 9th century until the Sokoto Caliphate took over in the 1800s.
In the colonial era, the British made Kaduna the capital of Northern Nigeria.
The state's economy relies heavily on farming, especially cotton and peanuts.
Recently, Kaduna has faced serious ethnic and religious conflicts. In 2002, riots over a Miss World pageant resulted in 250 deaths and 30,000 people losing their homes.
