Ijebu Icon!

Adeola Odutola was a friend to King George of England.

In this picture by Otunba Ladipo Olusanya Adeokun shows Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola (1902 -1995), Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, with his eldest daughter Olayide, leaving Buckingham Palace, in England, after receiving an Order of British Empire (O.B.E ) in 1951.Ojaja Gba, as he was fondly known, was a personal friend to King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth, who passed on, Sept 8, 2022. Reports have it that during the Queen's visit to Nigeria in 1956, her trip was rerouted to Ijebu ode, where she dined at Odutola's palatial Kiniun Onibudo Lodge. That day, She was welcomed to the ancient town by Awujale Alaiyeluwa Daniel Adesanya, Chief TA Odutola, Chief E.O Okunowo, Chief S.O Shonibare, Otunba Tuyo and many other dignitaries.
