Omoyele Sowore

While in School, Sowore is one of those past Student Union Presidents I read about, like Segun Okeowo, Segun Maiyegun, Tony Fash, Lanre Legacy, all who helped fought the military head-on, and ensured that the students place in University Community is not traded for Adminstrational Jagabanism or whatever you may want to call it.

As a student I love the shout of "Of the greatest Nigerian student, Articulate Gbagba" and the spirit of uprightness will fall on you instantly.

Looking back into how University struggles could be, and with experience of After school candour, all these testify to why Sowore remains who he is till today.  Resolute, with firm belief in sending out any forceful government and the likes. I can say that his antecedent and his making all culminated into who he is today.

Since the death of TELL Newspaper many years ago, Sowore's platform Sahara reporters is one of the few places we sought to read hidden stories of cankerworms, and notified of brewing events that could be avoided.

Sadly, Time happened to Sahara reporters and we have others like Premium times, the Cable etc, who also have eyes and clout to see the inside before the rest could see.

No matter what we may think of Sowore today, all I can say is that  history of struggle for nation building can not be completed in Nigeria without mentioning Omoyele Sowore.

For me, he will be remembered for living for something, and has written his name on the sand of history.  He is not the one that put us all in the this ever recurring political disaster we found ourselves in the last 16yrs, so we may have to excuse his vibes as we leave him to his ordeal, while we only hope things get better as he wishes. I pray Sowore's prayers for a better Nigeria becomes a reality.

Honestly, it feels sad to start explaining to any Nigerian again why we need a better working system, probably with different nation building agenda, to put back this country into its old cherished phase, but for many reasons we will only hope we all see better tomorrow as a people where the only prayer we pray everyday is not how to run away for our dear life's or "Japa".

Sowore sure looks great at 50. Belated happy birthday Comrade!
