Things To Do In Montgomery County Blog

It seems almost instantaneous – as soon as the clock strikes midnight on Halloween and the trick-or-treaters finish counting their spoils, we swap the spider webs and jack-o-lanterns for festive turkeys and Christmas lights. We officially enter November and also the holiday season.

Ring in the holidays and celebrate with friends and family at some of these fantastic events happening in Montgomery County throughout the month of November.

Emancipation Day Celebrations

On November 1, 1864, Maryland passed a state constitution that ended slavery and freed all those held in bondage. Each year, we celebrate freedom and this historic day through a number of fun and educational activities. Learn about slavery, the Underground Railroad and 19th century life in Montgomery County through living history demonstrations, tours and exhibitions throughout the area.

Rockville Town Square Celebrates 10 Years

It's hard to believe but the Rockville Town Square was built and opened 10 year ago! Celebrate its 10 anniversary on Friday, November 3. Enjoy live music, entertainment, special deals, swag bags for the first 300 guests, cake and an anniversary toast with Rockville Mayor Newton! Holiday Sugarloaf Crafts Festival 

Whether you're shopping for an early Christmas gift or looking to add something new to your collection, you'll find something unique and inspiring at the Holiday Sugarloaf Crafts Festival. See an extensive array of fine work from over 450 talented artists and crafters. There will also be delicious gourmet food (with free samples) and on-site live art demonstrations. Entry tickets cost $8 but are good for the whole weekend.

Montgomery County Thanksgiving Day Parade

On the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the streets of Silver Spring will be overrun with turkeys, dinosaurs, penguins and reindeer for the annual Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade! This year there will be marching bands, Latin dancing groups, floats, giant characters and balloons.

The parade will start from Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street and proceed south on Georgia Avenue, ending at Silver Spring Avenue. It will also be televised live on News Channel 8 and rerun on Thanksgiving Day.

Winter Lights Festival 

The City of Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival is getting ready for its 22nd Winter Lights Festival. The wondrous display of lights at Seneca Creek State Park will be open nightly from November 24 through December 31. The 3.5 mile drive through the enchanted setting of Seneca Creek State Park takes you past more than 380 illuminated displays and 65 animated vignettes that light up the night. Themed areas include Winter Woods, Teddy Bear Land, Victorian Village, the North Pole, and much more.
